This course is the first in a series of modules that takes a science forward, approach to understanding what classical psychedelics are, how they work, what they do, and who is a good candidate for psychedelic assisted therapy.

Psychedelic herbal medicine has been a part of the East Asian materia medica for millennia. With a psychedelic renaissance within our grasp here in the west, east Asian medical professionals are uniquely situated to prepare, facilitate and integrate psychedelic experiences with patients. This course is the first in a series of modules that takes a science forward, approach to understanding what classical psychedelics are, how they work, what they do, and who is a good candidate for psychedelic assisted therapy. We will dive directly into the neurobiology, chemistry and microbiology of psychedelic structure and function, the production, and signaling of serotonin and the ethics and interactions of psychedelics with pharmaceuticals and pre-existing health conditions. Future courses will take a specific east Asian medical approach to how we use pattern discrimination and five element theory to match the right psychedelic to the right pattern that our patients present.
